Tècnics de la Universitat de la Rioja han iniciat l’estudi genètic de diverses varietats de raïm a Calonge (Baix Empordà) per determinar si són similars a d’altres varietats existents o si són úniques i singulars. La iniciativa, impulsada per L’Ajuntament de Calonge i Sant Antoni i la Càtedra de Gastronomia, Cultura i Turisme de la Universitat de Girona amb la col·laboració de la Fundació Remença XXI, vol resoldre els interrogants d’un primer informe elaborat pels doctors Pedro José Balda i Fernando Martínez de Toda d’aquesta universitat. El document incloïa més de vint mostres, algunes probablement d’abans de la fil·loxera, que no es corresponien aparentment a cap varietat classificada. Entre elles, hi ha varietats com el Mollí, Jaqué, Cua d’Ovella i Abeller.

Calonge podria tenir varietats de raïm “úniques i singulars” que encara no han estat classificades. Per esbrinar-ho, s’ha iniciat un estudi genètic d’alguns ceps per definir el seu perfil genètic i contrastar-lo amb les 1.700 mostres que hi ha a la base de dades de la Universitat de la Rioja. La iniciativa, que s’ha presentat aquest dijous, està impulsada per l’Ajuntament de Calonge i Sant Antoni i la Càtedra de Gastronomia, Cultura i Turisme de la UdG amb la col·laboració de la Fundació Remença XXI.

Tot va començar amb una visita que el doctor Pedro José Balda d’aquesta universitat va fer a diferents finques del municipi per analitzar diferents mostres de ceps marcades prèviament pels viticultors de la Fundació Remença XXI. Aquesta entitat agrupa diversos masos i cases de pagès que produeixen i comercialitzen el vi de manera tradicional. Es van visitar diferents vinyes i es va fer una inspecció visual dels diferents ceps seleccionats. A més, es va prendre nota dels principals trets d’interès que podien ajudar a la identificació d’aquestes varietats, com ara la forma de la cua de la fulla, la presència de pilositat en el revés de la fulla i el color de la baia, entre d’altres. També es van fer fotografies i els ceps analitzats van ser senyalitzats amb la denominació local per a futurs mostrejos.

Aquest primer informe va detectar més d’una vintena de mostres, algunes probablement d’abans de la fil·loxera, que no es corresponien aparentment a cap altra varietat de raïm, o que presentaven variants que feien dubtar sobre la seva correspondència amb varietats de raïm ja classificades. I es recomanava l’estudi genètic que ara s’inicia. El treball determinarà si varietats conegudes en l’àmbit local com Negra del Caïm, Cua d’Ovella, Abeller, Mollí, Jaqué o Txumoll són úniques.
