Els Agents Rurals i l’Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA) han obert una investigació per esclarir la mort d’aproximadament 70 peixos a la desembocadura del Foix, a Cubelles (Garraf). Una patrulla es va personar dissabte a la zona, inclosa a la Xarxa Natura 2000, on va constatar la presència dels animals morts i va agafar mostres d’aigua per determinar les causes dels fets. A l’espera dels resultats de l’analítica, l’Ajuntament de Cubelles ha assenyalat que tot apunta que els animals són d’espècie marina i haurien entrat a la desembocadura accidentalment, degut a un descens de la salinitat de l’aigua de mar. L’entitat ecologista Fauna Cubelles, capdavantera en la conservació de l’espai, adverteix que la mort podria estar relacionada amb un vessament d’aigües fecals.

L’entitat recorda que els vessaments fecals són habituals a la zona, provocats per les deficiències tècniques de l’estació de bombament que hi ha prop de la desembocadura. De fet, fa deu anys que l’Ajuntament de Cubelles té damunt la taula un projecte per construir una nova estació, que està pendent de finançament.

L’últim acord entre el consistori i l’ACA, fixava que aquest ens assumiria el 25% de l’obra i el municipi s’encarregaria de la part restant. Ara fa un any, l’Ajuntament va arribar també a una entesa amb la Diputació de Barcelona per a què aquesta financés el 25% de l’obra.

El principal problema de l’estació de bombament es remunta al 2009, quan l’ACA i l’Ajuntament van acordar ampliar el cabal d’aigua a aquesta infraestructura i centralitzar els sobreeixidors a la llera del riu, tocant a la desembocadura. Aquell acord, incloïa la millora de l’estació de bombament per a què pogués expulsar l’aigua fecal cap a la depuradora. Aquesta segona part del pacte, però, encara no s’ha fet.
