Més 60 d’empreses, administracions i professionals participen en el I Fòrum de la Biomassa de Catalunya , segons informa la Generalitat en un comunicat. Aquesta iniciativa, impulsada per l’Institut Català de l’Energia, té l’objectiu d’esdevenir punt de trobada d’administracions, empreses, centres de recerca i professionals per impulsar l’aprofitament de la biomassa a Catalunya.

Concretament, l’esdeveniment ha posat de relleu la necessitat energètica, ambiental i econòmica que té Catalunya d’aprofitar la biomassa i avançar en la transició cap a un nou model energètic més net, sostenible i democràtic i, alhora, reduir la dependència energètica de l’exterior. En aquest sentit, s’han remarcat les potencialitats de l’aprofitament de la biomassa, ja que “permet compatibilitzar la preservació de l’ecosistema amb la viabilitat econòmica dels boscos alhora que contribueix a la lluita contra el canvi climàtic”. D’altra banda, també s’ha remarcat que cal garantir la seva gestió per disminuir el risc d’incendi i fomentar la creació de llocs de treball vinculats al territori.

Un 64% de la superfície de Catalunya és forestal , amb poc més de 2 milions d’hectàrees i un increment d’entre 3 i 4 milions de m3 l’any de les masses forestals. . Amb l’objectiu de posar-los en valor i de combinar la seva conservació amb la rendibilització del recurs, el Govern va impulsar l’Estratègia per promoure l’aprofitament energètic de la biomassa forestal i agrícola a Catalunya 2014-2020.
