Les verdures ara també arriben des de les escoles. 300 alumnes gironins han venut al Mercat del Lleó els productes cultivats per ells mateixos. L’acció s’emmarca dins d’un projecte educatiu en el qual han participat un total de 12 centres escolar: durant tot l’any, els infants han cultivat horts ecològics als seus respectius centres, per aprendre a cuidar-los. Ara, una vegada recollits els productes sembrats, els han venut a diferents parades de Francesc Calvet i Rubalcaba.

El projecte està en marxa des de 2008, quan el consistori de Girona va decidir introduir l’horticultura al currículum escolar. Aquest any hi han participat 16 grups de primària i secundària. Però no només els nens aprenen a cuidar i cultivar diferents tipus de verdura i hortalisses, sinó que el professorat també rep formació de com gestionar un hort ecològic. D’aquesta manera es treballa per la sensibilització d’una cultura agrària més sostenible i respectuosa amb el medi ambient.

A més, des del curs passat, la iniciativa té també una voluntat integradora gràcies al projecte “Aprendre a l’hort de l’escola”, que preveu la col·laboració dels treballadors i treballadores de la Fundació Drissa i de la gent gran voluntària de la Fundació Bancària La Caixa en els horts escolars.
