“Les universitats, com a institucions científiques al nostre país i com a altaveus de les demandes de la comunitat científica i de les futures generacions, tenim la responsabilitat de donar la veu d’alarma enfront de l’emergència climàtica que tenim davant i de posicionar-nos al respecte”. La Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona ha acordat afegir-se a la declaració d’estat d’emergència climàtica. D’aquesta manera, el centre secunda la iniciativa de l’Assemblea Ecologista del centre, qui, en una carta oberta, instava a la UAB a prendre la mesura, seguint els passos d’universitats com la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, la Universitat de Bristol i la Universitat de Newcastle.

En aquest sentit, subratllen “que tant els membres de la comunitat com diversos àmbits organitzatius “treballen en la recerca i en l’acció en àmbits com la mobilitat, l’energia o els residus amb l’objectiu de disminuir les emissions globals de gasos d’efecte d’hivernacle generats per la UAB i d’assolir una universitat més sostenible i respectuosa amb el medi ambient”. A més, el centre universitari també s’ha compromès a dedicar el curs 2019-2020 al canvi climàtic, que protagonitzarà la festa major d’enguany i altres activitats institucionals.

La declaració institucional de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona se suma a la realitzada pel Govern de la Generalitat, on l’executiu es compromet a “adoptar les mesures de simplificació administrativa necessàries per eliminar els obstacles que puguin posar en perill l’assoliment dels objectius en matèria de mitigació del canvi climàtic i de transició energètica”. Queda per veure, doncs, quines accions concretes s’apliquen des de les diferents institucionals.
