Comencen a introduir exemplars de tortuga mediterrània al Parc Natural de Cap de Creus

L’objectiu d'aquest pla és consolidar i restablir de nou poblacions d'aquesta espècie amenaçada a la zona perquè en pocs anys s’hi mantinguin com a nucli reproductor.

El Parc Natural de Cap de Creus està impulsant un pla de reintroducció de tortuga mediterrània (Testudo hermanni ssp. Hermanni) que va iniciar l’any passat. En concret, aquest 2022, s’han amollat 68 exemplars juvenils nascuts al Centre de Recuperació de Tortugues de l’Albera i 6 exemplars subadults, també recuperats a l’Albera. L’any que ve, hi ha previsió d’introduir 75 individus més i avaluar els resultats el 2024. L’objectiu d’aquest pla és consolidar i restablir de nou poblacions d’aquesta espècie amenaçada a la zona perquè en pocs anys s’hi mantinguin com a nucli reproductor. En l’actualitat, només s’hi trobaven exemplars aïllats, que són restes de l’antiga població que hi havia hagut al Parc.

La tortuga mediterrània és una espècie qualificada en perill d’extinció pel Catàleg de fauna salvatge autòctona amenaçada. Els ecologistes atribueixen la desaparició d’aquest rèptil, que havia habitat històricament en el Parc, a “la desforestació, els incendis forestals o actituds incíviques com capturar exemplars de la natura, creient que podrien convertir-se en mascotes”.

Aquest no és el primer intent de reintroducció de l’espècie; fa vint anys es van alliberar alguns individus equipats amb emissors amb antenes llargues que van acabar tots depredats. Els darrers anys, s’han estudiat les zones més viables per realitzar la reintroducció analitzant, segons fonts del Parc Natural, “aspectes com ara la freqüentació humana, la presència de depredadors, la freqüència d’incendis o la presència de parets de pedra”, entre d’altres. Per això, esperen que aquest poc el pla funcioni amb èxit.

Més amollades l’any 2023

El Parc té previst continuar el pla l’any vinent amb la programació de noves amollades, que es duran a terme entre els mesos de setembre i octubre. La voluntat és la d’introduir al voltant de 75 exemplars més. L’any 2024, es començaran a fer els primers treballs de prospecció amb gossos especialitzats per detectar els exemplars amollats i comptabilitzar quants en queden, la seva adaptació i la seva dispersió. Es vol avaluar així la continuïtat del pla de reintroducció.

Actualment, a més del Parc Natural de Cap de Creus, també hi ha programes de reintroducció de la tortuga mediterrània al Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre, al Parc Natural de la Serra de Montsant, al Parc Natural dels Ports i al Parc del Garraf.
